Meet Casey

My name is Casey Lara, owner and head trainer at Stand Proud K9 Training!

The biggest little city has been my home my entire life and I don't think I could ever find a more diverse and interesting city. Traveling is a passion of mine and I take my dogs - a German Shepherd, Golden Retriever and Miniature Australian Shepherd - with me any chance I get. It's very important for me to include them in my daily life but, like many folks, it wasn't always possible. My Shepherd was reactive, my Aussie was fearful, and my Golden had selective hearing. Training them took different approaches and I learned so much from them, the change I saw was incredible and I enjoyed training them so much that I had to turn it into a career.

I am always eager to learn and I attend training seminars at least once a year to further my knowledge and gain insight on the best way to help dogs of all sizes, breeds, and behaviors. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing the transformations and milestones people reach with their dogs and I strive to see the smiles on peoples faces when they learn their dog is capable of so much more. .

I want every owner to enjoy time with their dogs. I want them to know there is hope and I'm ready to help!

Hello! My name is Brandon Cartlidge and I am standproud's second trainer and assistant to our awsome head trainer Casey. I am a Reno native, and back country skiing enthusiast!

I have been working with dogs for the majority of my life, starting with my fathers Akita kennel where I began handling and working with dogs at about 7 years old. I currently have 4 dogs in my own pack, Simba, Koda, Kovu, and Patrick, all of whom came to me under rough circumstances, yet had nothing but love to offer us. That quickly translated into a life long commitment to better the lives of the local animals and their handlers.

I spent  years working with the Nevada humane society, local day cares, grooming facilities, and veterinary clinics. I've also spent the last few years running a foster kennel from my home here in reno.

Training owners and their companions has become a true passion of mine and like Casey I'm constantly striving to further my education, certifications and training knowledge to assist all of you to best of my ability! I currently have 15 years of training experience. I find an emence amount of fulfillment in helping people form new, involved and positive relationships with their companions.

I look forward to helping you and your fur-babies on your journey to a happier and successful relationship!

Quickly becoming a favorite here at Stand Proud! An on and off leash intensive lifestyle program, based out of our homes, that is effective by immersing your dog in our training routine which includes structure, daily walks, socialization, and exposure to the real world. Your dog truly becomes a member of our pack and will join us on trips to Home Depot, Lowe's, the Sparks Marina (weather permitting) and our facility. This program is suitable for adolescent and adult dogs without SEVERE behavioral issues (Including bites to humans/dogs, breaking out of crates, severe reactivity, or debilitating fear) and is ideal for owners who want their dog to listen in high distraction environments and may not have the time to attend private lessons every week. We strive to help you build a new foundation with your dog, a relationship built on understanding, trust, and clear communication. We want to empower you and your dog to excel in lots of new places! We will address issues such as:

  • Lack of manners

  • Pulling on leash

  • Whining

  • Barking

  • Jumping on you or guests

  • Mouthing/nipping

  • Chasing the cat and other critters

  • Over-excitement

  • Reactivity

  • Nervousness/fear

We specialize in state-of-the-art low level remote collar training and is nothing like the methods of old. Contemporary E-collar training utilizes the gentlest remote communication, and is one of the most humane and effective approaches to dog training available.

In this program your dog will understand the following skills:

  • Sit/stay

  • Down/stay

  • Down from a distance

  • Place/ stay

  • Heel/ walking politely on and off leash

  • Come when called (audio recall also available)

  • Automatic sit - dependent on dogs age/health

  • Thresholds/ door manners

  • Calm in the house, crate, and outdoors

  • Waiting for food

  • Treadmill (upon request)

  • Controlled Jogging (great for people who want to run with their dogs. Upon request)

This program includes a 30-minute consultation before our starting day, two 1-1.5 hour follow ups at the end of the program where we will transfer all the information, strategies, and techniques to you to insure continued success. You will also have lifetime access to our weekly group classes.

4-6 Weeks Behavior Modification

$2,300 to $2,800* - Includes Lifetime Access to Group Classes Plus 1 Year of Refresher Lessons

*Price includes prong training collar and ecollar, does NOT include collar add-ons that may be needed

This is an intensive program geared to help owners with dogs who suffer from severe behavioral issues including

  • Aggression (bites toward humans, dogs, or other animals)

  • Severe resource/ food guarding

  • Debilitating fear/ anxiety

  • Separation anxiety

  • Severe reactivity

This is the only program we offer for dogs who have bitten humans or other animals, have intent to do harm or have debilitating fear and/or anxiety issues such as harming themselves trying to break out of crates, or home destruction due to escape attempts. Due to dogs needing extra time to acclimate and build trust in our us, longer stays are necessary. Please contact us so we can discuss the extent of your dog’s behavior and build a program that will work best. We focus on changing your dog’s state of mind by removing them from their current environment, creating a solid foundation of obedience, having clear expectations, and building good habits.  A dog whose life is permission based greatly improves the human-dog relationship and helps address behavioral problems at their source. This program includes a 30-minute consultation on our starting day, as well as three 1-1.5 hour follow ups at the end of the program where we will transfer all the information, strategies, and techniques to you to insure continued success.
